The Project

Modern Proportions, Southern Materials

The clients came to us with a clear brief: they wanted a home that felt like it had always been on the land, not one that had been placed there recently. They'd grown up in the South, had an appreciation for its building vernacular, and wanted a house that honored that without becoming a costume.

The design drew from the board-and-batten farmhouses of north Georgia — steep gabled roofs, deep covered porches, a massing that reads as composed additions rather than one designed volume. What's underneath is thoroughly modern: open-plan living spaces, a primary suite designed for daily use rather than display, and mechanical systems built for Atlanta's climate.

We pre-built the timber frame package off-site and set it in a single day, which allowed the exterior envelope to close before the summer heat made interior finishing difficult. The project finished three weeks ahead of schedule.

Buckhead Modern Farmhouse

We wanted a house that felt earned, not built. Benson understood the difference — they're builders who think about materials the way designers think about space.
