The Project

A Tudor Revival, Given New Life

The Ansley Park house was built in 1924 by one of Atlanta's early residential architects — a confident Tudor Revival on a double lot at the edge of the park. By the time we were brought in, it had been through several layers of well-meaning but uncoordinated updates that had muffled its character without improving its bones.

Our work began with a full condition assessment: every system, every wall section, every original plaster detail catalogued before a single piece came down. Original heart-pine floors were sanded back to bare wood and refinished in place. Plaster cornices that had been damaged were replicated by a traditional plasterer who casts from original profiles. Period-appropriate hardware — door knobs, switch plates, cabinet pulls — was sourced from architectural salvage dealers across the Southeast.

The result is a house that reads as 1924 but lives as 2022. New mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems run entirely concealed. A reconfigured kitchen opens to the rear garden without disturbing the front-of-house room sequence. The character was worth saving, so we saved it.

Ansley Park Revival

We were terrified someone would update it into something generic. Benson understood the assignment from day one — preserve what matters, improve what the eye never sees.
